Field reports from real solar data
Analysis, news and recurring field reports on solar and energy in Pakistan — written by the engineers who independently monitor commercial and industrial solar, string by string. Every figure is measured, not guessed.
Most writing about solar in Pakistan is either a sales pitch or a generic explainer. This blog is neither. It is written by the engineers who run Solar Performance Cloud and WattEY — the platform that independently monitors commercial and industrial solar across Pakistan, string by string — so what you read here comes from real systems, not brochures.
Four kinds of writing live here, and every figure is measured or cited — never invented:
- Field reports — recurring findings from our own monitoring data: what actually breaks on Pakistani solar, how often, and what it costs the owner.
- Analysis — straight answers to the questions a commercial or industrial owner actually asks: is my solar underperforming, what does O&M really cost, in-house vs independent monitoring.
- News — what changes in Pakistan’s energy rules mean for a business: net metering and net billing, tariffs, battery storage, and import duties.
- Case studies — named client stories, published only with consent, showing what independent monitoring found and fixed.
It is all written under the byline of Engr. Reyyan Niaz Khan, founder of Wattey Energy and a UET Lahore electrical engineer.
- Field reportThe State of C&I Solar in Pakistan — 2026 Field ReportWhat we actually find on commercial and industrial solar in Pakistan: 61% of monitored inverters had a dead string or went silent within 60 days, while their owners’ apps showed a healthy plant. A field report from real Solar Performance Cloud data.
- AnalysisIs Your Commercial Solar Quietly Underperforming? Most commercial solar in Pakistan loses output long before anyone notices — the app still shows green. Here are the signs your system is underperforming, why the meter hides it, and how to find out for sure.
- AnalysisIn-House vs Independent Solar Monitoring in PakistanShould a business watch its own commercial solar, or bring in an independent monitor? Here’s the honest trade-off — coverage, conflict of interest, and cost — for a C&I owner in Pakistan.
- AnalysisDust, Heat and Soiling: What It Costs Solar in PakistanPakistan’s dust and heat make solar soiling losses higher than temperate markets — and “clean it every few months” is a guess, not an answer. Here’s what soiling really costs and how to know when to wash.
- AnalysisWhat Solar O&M Really Costs a Business in PakistanThe biggest cost of solar O&M in Pakistan isn’t cleaning or site visits — it’s the output lost to faults nobody catches. Here’s where the real money goes, and how to spend less by finding problems sooner.
- AnalysisGenerator, Grid or Solar: Which Should You Run Right Now?A Pakistani business runs on grid, generator and solar at once — and which one to lean on changes through the day. Here’s why you can’t answer it from three separate meters, and how to see all three together.
- NewsBattery Storage Is Coming to Pakistan — Wait or Plan?Battery storage is arriving in Pakistan, and it changes the economics of commercial solar. Here’s an honest take on whether a business should wait or start planning — and what to get right first.
- Engineering noteWhen a meter goes offline, what number do you show?A meter drops for three hours, then reconnects with its register jumped forward. Do you show a zero, a smooth line, or the truth? How WattEY keeps the total honest and marks the timing unknown — an engineering note.
- Engineering noteNo data is not zero: the danger of a smooth lineThe most dangerous number on an energy dashboard is the one that was quietly made up. Why "no data" must never become a tidy zero or a smooth interpolated line — the trust principle behind SPC and WattEY.
- Engineering noteAnomaly detection is not engineering inspectionFlagging that a number moved is easy. Deciding whether it matters is the hard part. Why fixed-threshold anomaly detection drowns solar owners in alerts, and what engineering inspection does instead — an engineering note.
