Why we built this
Why we built Solar Performance Cloud
The reason behind building Solar Performance Cloud was not simply to make another solar monitoring app. The bigger idea was to solve the practical problems that come after a solar system is installed.
Why we built Solar Performance Cloud
- 1
Solar systems were becoming harder to manage.
With hybrid inverters, batteries, CTs, meters, multiple inverter brands, different communication methods, and increasingly complex installations, simply installing a system is no longer enough. Someone needs to continuously understand whether that system is actually performing correctly.
- 2
There was too much fragmented information.
Installer knowledge, inverter manuals, fault codes, commissioning settings, monitoring portals, site data and troubleshooting experience often exist in separate places. SPC was conceived as a way to bring that information together around the actual solar plant.
- 3
We wanted to move from “monitoring” to “performance.”
A typical monitoring platform can tell you that an inverter is online and show generation numbers. The bigger question is: is the system performing the way it should be performing? That distinction is central to SPC. The goal is to understand performance, identify abnormal behaviour, and help the installer/operator act on it.
- 4
Faults needed to become understandable.
A message such as “not meeting detection condition”, CT problems, communication failures, battery issues, abnormal generation, or configuration problems can require significant technical knowledge to interpret. SPC’s purpose is to make this information more useful to the people responsible for the system.
- 5
Installers needed a professional operational layer.
We deal with real installation problems — not just theoretical solar calculations. Things like inverter configuration, CT selection, meter compatibility, commissioning, troubleshooting, documentation, and different manufacturers all matter. SPC fits that real-world installer workflow.
- 6
We wanted data to lead to decisions.
The ultimate value isn’t the graph itself. It’s being able to answer questions such as: Is this plant healthy? Where is the problem? How serious is it? Why is performance different from expected? What should the technician check? That is where the “Performance Cloud” idea becomes different from a basic monitoring portal.
The core idea
Solar Performance Cloud was built because installing solar is only the beginning. The real challenge is knowing, every day, whether the system is performing correctly, why it isn’t when something goes wrong, and what needs to be done to fix it. SPC brings solar system data, performance analysis, diagnostics, and operational knowledge together into one platform.
Don’t just monitor solar systems. Understand them.
The real reason we built SPC
SPC was built around a customer-trust problem in Pakistan.
When someone buys a solar system, they are not really buying panels and an inverter. They are buying a long-term promise:
“This system will reduce my electricity cost and keep performing.”
But after installation, the customer is often left with a monitoring screen full of numbers. The difficult question remains: “Is my solar system actually performing the way it should?”
Our customer research captured this very directly: the solar owner has already spent real money and may still not know whether the system is actually working or paying back. One of the explicit purchase triggers was a customer wanting the system verified independently of the installer.
That is where Solar Performance Cloud comes in. It was not meant to be another prettier inverter dashboard.
SPC is the layer of accountability after installation
The installation happens once. The customer lives with that system for years.
So the real problem is what happens between commissioning and the next physical inspection. A plant can continue generating electricity and still have something wrong with it. A solar plant can still be generating while hidden issues quietly reduce performance; SPC continuously watches the behaviour of the plant and looks for recognizable patterns in the data.
That changes the question from:
“What number is my inverter showing?”
to:
“What is my plant telling us about its health?”
Why “inspection” became the heart of SPC
The important word was inspection, not monitoring.
Monitoring says
“Here is your data.”
Inspection says
“We are watching the behaviour of your system, and this is what looks abnormal.”
That is why SPC was designed around things such as underperforming strings, sudden performance drops, repeated inverter trips, communication failures, offline devices, imbalance between strings, gradual degradation and unusual generation behaviour. The system is supposed to surface things that deserve engineering attention, rather than merely display graphs.
And one of the most important ideas in the design was:
No data ≠ zero generation.
A missing signal should not silently become a beautiful-looking zero or a filled-in graph. The system should know when it doesn’t actually know.
Pakistan mattered because this wasn’t a theoretical problem
We were building this from the reality of Pakistani solar customers and installations, not from a generic global SaaS idea. SPC continues to monitor, inspect, manage and optimize the solar investment beyond installation, alongside AMC and the company’s engineering and support process.
And the wider Pakistan energy context made the problem more important: customers are dealing with expensive and volatile electricity, solar adoption, and sites where grid, solar and backup generation can coexist. The Pakistani C&I problem is a multi-source, cost-visibility problem — and it keeps coming back to the lack of trustworthy visibility into what is actually happening.
So SPC wasn’t born from:
“Solar monitoring is a big software market.”
It was closer to:
“We install these expensive systems. We have customers trusting us with a major investment. We cannot just hand them a portal and say, ‘look at your generation.’ We need to know when the system starts behaving differently — and the customer needs someone watching.”
A second side to the problem: the installer / engineer
SPC is useful to the customer and to the engineering team.
The customer wants
“Tell me whether my investment is healthy.”
The engineer wants
“Tell me where the abnormal behaviour is, how long it has been happening, and whether it deserves a site visit.”
That is why SPC’s architecture is fundamentally about turning patterns into engineering attention, rather than producing alarm spam. Complex events are surfaced for engineering investigation, and not presented as automatically confirmed faults.
The product sits between
Customer → Solar Plant → Data → SPC → Engineering Action
rather than simply
Inverter → App → Customer
The deepest reason
We had seen the gap between selling a solar system and taking responsibility for its long-term performance.
The customer shouldn’t have to discover six months later that a string has been weak, an inverter has been repeatedly tripping, telemetry has disappeared, or the plant’s behaviour has slowly changed.
SPC was our attempt to make the solar system continuously observable after the salesman, installer and commissioning team had left the roof.
That is why the name Solar Performance Cloud makes sense.
- Not Solar Monitoring Cloud
- Not Solar Dashboard
- Not Solar Analytics
But Solar Performance — because the thing being protected is the performance of the customer’s investment. And Cloud — because that inspection can continue without needing an engineer physically standing at the plant every day.
We built SPC because buying solar should not end with installing a system and opening an inverter app; customers deserve continuous, engineering-level visibility into whether the system they paid for is actually performing — and they should know about hidden problems before those problems quietly cost them energy and money.
The single most important idea to preserve: inspect behaviour, not just display numbers. WattEY carries the same trust philosophy to the whole site’s energy — read why we built WattEY.
What inspecting real systems produced
Watching real commercial and industrial solar this way, day after day, gave us something rare: a measured, ground-level record of how solar actually behaves in Pakistan. Across 906 panel strings at 94 sites and 118 inverters (as of 25 August 2026) — our monitored base, not a national census.
of monitored inverters had a dead string or went silent within 60 days — apps still green.
output returned on one inverter from fixing a single dead string.
less alert noise — the same faults, a fraction of the messages.
of solar generation measured on the platform since April 2026.
platform uptime — we see the other 2% the day it happens.
kWh/kWp/day between the best and worst sites — under the same sun.
The full picture is in the 2026 field report.
Owners, inverter companies, and the people who back solar
We’re open about it: our focus is not only to bring the client. It’s also to bring the investor and the solar & inverter companies — because a data moat like this is worth building around, and it shapes the biggest decisions in solar: what to install, and how to keep it performing.
For solar owners
Proof your system is honest
You get an independent, string-level check on whether your solar is really performing — and the “why” when it isn’t. The data works for you, not for whoever sold you the kit.
Commercial & industrial solarFor inverter & solar companies
Independent field feedback
We hold multi-brand, ground-truth data on how equipment actually performs in Pakistan’s conditions. Investment decisions — which inverter to install, and how to monitor it — lean on exactly this kind of independent field evidence.

The founder and the team
Wattey Energy was founded in 2018 by Engr. Reyyan Niaz Khan — a UET Lahore electrical engineer with 14+ years in Pakistan’s energy sector and the pioneer of digital energy auditing in pakistan. Solar Performance Cloud and WattEY were designed and built by Ali Ahmed, Head of Energy Systems & Product Engineering; the company’s engineers handle installation, rollout and training at client sites.
Meet the founderThe story, your questions
- What’s the difference between monitoring and inspection?
- Monitoring says “here is your data” — it shows numbers and tells you an inverter is online. Inspection says “we’re watching your system’s behaviour, and this looks abnormal.” A plant can keep generating while something is quietly wrong; SPC is built to inspect the plant’s behaviour and surface what deserves engineering attention, rather than merely display graphs.
- Why is it called Solar Performance Cloud, not Solar Monitoring?
- Because the thing being protected is the performance of the customer’s investment — not just the display of data. It isn’t a monitoring app, a dashboard or an analytics tool. And “Cloud” is what lets that inspection continue without an engineer physically standing at the plant every day.
- What does “no data ≠ zero generation” mean?
- A missing signal should not silently become a beautiful-looking zero or a filled-in graph. When telemetry disappears, the system should know it doesn’t actually know — and say so — instead of pretending the plant produced nothing or filling the gap.
- Why does this matter to investors and inverter companies?
- Because the data moat shapes the biggest decisions in solar: which inverter to install and how to monitor it. Independent, multi-brand, ground-truth field data on how equipment performs in Pakistan is exactly what an investor backing solar, or a manufacturer, wants to be close to. Our focus is not only clients — it is also partners and investors.
